Which is why I answered

"Public debt does not compared to the size of the economy. Private debt? I'm not sure off hand, but "They're going into the 21st century like a poverty-stricken, Third World family, living from hand to mouth without any financial reserves whatsoever." isn't correct


We know that consumer debt is at an all time high. We know that public debt is nearly at a high since WW II. I would not be surprised if corporate debt is also at an all time high. That means this country is carrying a lot of debt. Calling it "third world" may be a stretch but not the stretch you seem to think it is.
