When we hear about Iraq, the news mostly comes from Baghdad or the surrounding areas.

We aren't hearing much from the Southern Areas, like Basra.

In those Southern Areas life has become more influenced by Fundamentalism and Shariah Law. Women in southern Iraq are much LESS free now than they were under Saddam. If they try to walk the streets with their heads uncovered they are likely to be attacked at any time. A store owner in southern Iraq can expect to be killed or see his store burned out if he dares sell anything with any sort of Western influence.

There isn't much FREEDOM in Iraq and it seems that there is less everyday.

Please explain why you so fervently object to Iraqi's having freedom? Those of us who have the American dream of freedom and recognise the responsibility it puts on us want to share it with others. It is not a precious commodity that is used up, instead it is a bountiful resource that flourishes and multiplies. To the tyrants in the world it is a weed that is difficult to keep at bay. Why do you want to kill the seed before it can germinate?

"it isn't going to turn out with everybody in Iraq having anything like the freedom we have in the U.S."

While that seems to be your desire, the Iraqi people seem to have a different opinion. You won't find the truth about that in the leftwing press.

"Freedom for the Kurds will mean not having to have any association with the Sunnis and Shiites.

Freedom for the Shiites will mean wiping out or totally subjugating the Sunnis.

Freedom for the Sunnis will mean forestalling their murder or subjugation by the Shiites."

BS! Utter BS. Next you are going to tell me that blacks and Southern whites cannot live together without lynchings and cross burnings. People grow out of their hatreds and biases over time. Old wounds heal if allowed to. There are intense cultural hatreds in Iraq; much of it is based on the tyranny of Saddam. The tyrant is dead. As crass as the video of his death was, I suspect it was cathartic for Iraqis.

"These people are NOT going to just be friends and live in harmony...it just AIN'T gonna happen."

You best laid plans for perpetual global war may not come to fruition. There are a lot of us that want peace who know that peace is achieved through strength and not weakness. If you don't like the implication, try a different demeanor. You only get one vote, you may yell a lot and there might be some weak minded people who believe everything you say without question. But it comes down to a democracy.

We had enough of lies and corruption in the Whitehouse, so we elected a principled leader. Now we can let him lead us or we can fight our own shadows. I am tired of pessimism; it has a way of coming true for the pessimist.
