I've been looking at uranium vs thorium and the safety differences and I came upon the radioactivity of coal ash... pretty eye opening.. and the Chinese get to cleanup a lot of their coal problems looks like ...

The fact that coal-fired power plants throughout the world are the major sources of radioactive materials released to the environment has several implications. It suggests that coal combustion is more hazardous to health than nuclear power and that it adds to the background radiation burden even more than does nuclear power. It also suggests that if radiation emissions from coal plants were regulated, their capital and operating costs would increase, making coal-fired power less economically competitive.

Lee Barker, Sparton CEO bio, taken from SH board...

Most visitors to this site are probably aware of the incredible number of excellent projects Sparton has in its fold. However my initial interest in Sparton came as a result of what I knew of Lee Barker, Sparton's CEO. For those of you who are not aware of his background here is a short list of his accomplishments.
He started the Diavic Diamond Project in 1990-1 which resulted in Canada's second diamond mine-- As West Viking operator and project manager in partnership with Kennicott Canada, he organized and operated the exploration program which produced the database that led to the Diavic discoveries.
In 1993 he joined SouthernEra and was involved directly in 2 diamond discoveries in South Africa.
He assumed responsibility to run Sparton in 2003.
Prior to 1990 he was Chief Geologist for Lacana Mining which was rolled into Corona Corp. He was involved in 7 gold discoveries in Nevada.
Prior to 1979 he was District Manager for Duval Corp which became Battle Mountain Gold (Newmont)and did the original magnetic survey over the Fortitude gold deposit at Battle Mountain near SBD.
Prior to 1971 he worked for Dennison, Teck Corp, Inco and Anacanda exploring for Uranium, copper, nickle, gold, moly etc.
One further point I should make is that the Chinese government has never allowed a foreign company to search for uranium inside China. The fact that Sparton has been allowed to partner with the Chinese Nuclear Agency in the coal ash project is testimony to the high regard they have for Lee and his team and the trust they have in Sparton's ability to get the job done.
