"only the ones that Saudi Arabia can hire will be on their side"

That could be US! They "hired" us for the first Gulf War.

"These days it must be scary being Sunni in Iraq."

I am sure it is. And the pinheads have no one to blame but themselves. Now it very well may have been true that once the Shiites gained power, they would have started slaughtering Sunnis. But they pretty much made it a certainty when they started blowing up Shiites at every opportunity. At least in the former case, they could have gained international sympathy and gotten UN peace keepers to intervene. Now, when the civil war goes into high gear, only the ones that Saudi Arabia can hire will be on their side. And that likely won't be enough to keep a bunch from being killed. Although it certainly could mean an every widening conflict.

You know when the turning point occurred was when the Sunnies blew up the architecturally significant Shiite mosque of Samarra. When I was studying the ME, that mosque was in the top ten of important mosques for the region. Blowing it up was the equivalent of taking out the Statue of Liberty or the WA Monument or the WTC. It was one of the stupidest moves the Sunnis could ever make.

It's then the Shia took off their gloves and the Sunnis have never been the same since. And yes, they are major pinheads.
