CompuDyne Corp. said Thursday that it won nearly $34 million in new projects during May -- the highest total since the company began tracking monthly project awards. The news represents a long-awaited change in CompuDyne's luck. The Annapolis-based security technology company reported a $15 million loss for its 2006 fiscal year and said in April that project backlogs had fallen 21 percent from a year ago. At that time, CompuDyne said it was facing delays in some major project awards. CompuDyne supplies embassies and law enforcement agencies with blast-resistant and attack-resistant windows and doors and computer software for first responders. Another segment produces technology used to gather intelligence. The company's institutional security systems division racked up the most awards in May, with $16 million in new projects, including a previously announced project in Torrington, Wyo. CompuDyne said Thursday that the division's prospective project activity is still very high and awards should outpace last year's totals. CompuDyne's public safety and justice division reported about $15 million in awards and maintenance renewals. The attack protection division had $1.5 million in new awards, mostly at its perimeter alarm company. The integrated electronic systems division had $1.7 million in awards.
