There is another issue that I have recently heard about that is not clear what they mean----"Highway from Mexico to Canada" and creating a union of Mexico, USA and Canada. Seems like a fairly explosive issue that candidates will be dancing around.

I have read about coal gasification-------find it fascinating but don't know how safe it truly is and the implication on the environment.

The coal industry fell apart in W.Va. when in the name of safety for workers the government required strip mining---------what they did not anticipate was the damage to the mountains that would create landslides and a mess of sludge pouring down the mountains despite the requirement to re-juvenate the strips after removing the coal. (Nature intervenes with storms and makes it impossible to time the renewal to prevent the damage.)

Don't know if you or others on this board have seen mountains that have been stripped or topped----------the first time I saw this, my heart sank at the devastation of the natural beauty of the mountains.

Then there are those who want ethanol------the question being how effective is it in terms of energy use to get to the final product. Seems to me the jury is still out on that.
