You're talking to the people who went into Iraq on a pack of lies and they're still in power. These people have benefited hugely, winning 2004 as a 'wartime' administration, pocketing the windfall from hugely inflated oil prices....talking to them as rational human beings is pointless.

They loved the chaos that is Iraq. The only question for them is, how do they escape responsibility and accountability for Iraq while still maintaining the 'benefits' of perpetual war?

Apparently their answer to that is: escalation.

No one knows what Bush will do. He's a loose cannon - a loose cannon with the US military at his command. I just saw him in an interview on NPR, and I didn't feel good after. He's a really sorry excuse for the leader of the USA.

There's a faction of hawks here in America that feel that while we have the pre-eminent military on the planet, we should USE it. The neocons are in this group, as are just a lot of old line hawks, some of whom feel we "missed our chance" when we had nukes and no one else did just after WWII. Some of these people are American Jews that feel getting America quagmired in the ME helps Israel. I'm sure Bush has a LOT of people urging him to hit Iran.

I have no idea what Bush will do. I think if he sees attacking Iran as something he can get away with, he'll do it. And he may.

Congress can only stop him with impeachment, unlikely before the fact. When we gave Presidents this power, it wasn't imagined that a sociopath would wield it.
