The fact that there is sexual abuse by priests is not surprising. What is sad is that the Church worries more about the welfare of the priests than of the parishoners. I am not an anti-Catholic bigot, but the Church is on the wrong side of too many other issues, also, such as:

1. Celibacy for the priests. The model for the popes and priests is supposedly St. Peter. According to the Bible, Peter had a wife and several children. His wife was a co-worker in his missionary work. So, how did celibacy get to be a top priority? BTW, many Popes have had common law wives and close male associates. One, the first John the 23rd, even had a harem. And who can forget Cesare Borgia, son of Pope Alexander Borgia.

2. Most human problems are caused by overpopulation. The Catholic Church is not in favor of contraception and considers it a sin. This attitude contributes to most of South America being a total mess. No wonder the attraction for communism down there.

3. Why is the Catholic Church rich and Catholics poor? Uh, why do CEOs make more money than their workers? CEOs may be pond scum, but they are not supposed to be moral lighthouses. This is also the case with many other religions. Golden Buddhas worshipped by starving Asians. Protestant preachers with Cadillacs lecturing dirt poor rednecks.

4. The Doctrine of infallibility. 'Nuff said on that one.
