Not really. He is just trying to head off an investigation. It will probably work. Just shows you how confident he is of its legality.

Here is some more on the removal of those US Attorneys. Not federal prosecutors, I had that wrong.

Seems there was an obscure provision that was slipped into the Patriot Act at the last moment by Arlen Specter that allows the Attorney General to replace US Attorney's without Senate approval. The original rule meant the appointment would age out after 120 days, that time limit has been removed. So the appointment is essentially permanent. So several investigations of Congressmen have had their USA's replaced. And needless to say, those USA's have unexpected backgrounds for a USA. For example, the one in Little Rock has a background of digging up dirt on Democrats for Karl Rove...
