I've played poker 5 or 6 times in my university days and won money every time, but I didn't enjoy it so ended up back at the bridge table. Besides, the luck of the draw issue, I'm too straightforward a person to enjoy either bluffing or being bluffed.

And I stick by my comment on luck. I know skill wins out in the long run, but in a particular game the best player in the world -- even you! -- can go bust if the cards go against him or her.

I have also played a lot of competitive scrabble, bridge, and hearts, which all have an element of luck, but I prefer games like chess and Go where your efforts can't go to waste because luck is against you.

I keep my right brain -- which is very well-developed I'll have you know -- in shape with artistic pursuits like music, creative writing, and photography. And I would also argue there is a lot of left brain and lateral thinking in chess. Sometimes you can work out the moves ahead exactly, but sometimes you just have to let your intuition size up the position when you are trying to pick the right move.
