It is unsustainable if we keep adding to it faster than the growth in the economy. In 2006, the US budget deficit was $406B. Including the off the books Iraq 2006 spending of $100B, that increases the total 2006 deficit to $506B. At the beginning of last year, the national debt was $8.1 trillion and now it is $8.6 Trillion. That an increase of 6.2% increase, which is roughly double the US growth rate of last year.

Our debt and deficits are unsustainable because we're growing debt faster than the growth of our economy. Deficits are a very bad idea and Bush doesn't give a shit.
