Some confidence would be lost in the dollar if oil was regularly sold in Euros or whatever

It is already sold in Euros and Yen today IMO.
It is just priced in dollars.

Consider gold.
Priced in dollars.
Walk into any place selling gold in the world today and you can buy in Canadian dollars, Yen, pounds or whatever.

You do not have to go to the bank to exchange pounds for dollars to make the trade. You buy in pounds.

It is naive to think the exact same thing is not happening in crude right now and it is irrelevent if I am wrong. It is all electronic.
