På byens universitet talte Al Gore onsdag om netop klimaforandringer til en lukket forsamling. Universitetsledelsen er så begejstret for den tidligere vicepræsident, at han blev gjort til æresdoktor. Aalborg Universitet begrunder udnævnelsen med, at Al Gore har "påtaget sig den vigtige opgave som talsmand for problemerne omkring klimaforandringer". Desuden har han "været medvirkende til, at klimaforandringerne er blevet placeret i den internationale dagsorden, i videnskaben, blandt politikere og i offentligheden".
