Currently he polls #4 but has been out of favor or not even mentioned for a long time due to several artificial and temporary factors. I am going with the assumption that in the end, as usual, Democrats nominate a white male. I am also going with the logic that to neutralize McCain (a moderate-conservative war veteran with strong commander in chief qualities) the DEms need someone with at least some military experience and credibility (so count out Edwards there) who isn't too liberal (Obama is). Gore would wipe out Hillary and Obama if he decided to run, but he probably won't. SO who's next in line? Kerry is, and is arguably a beter choice for president than Gore. Kerry is battle-tested, smear-proof and has ten million bucks in the bank (meaning he doesn't have to rush to raise money) plus a 3,000,000 member email list and 57 different congressmen who owe him incuding Jim Webb (and Obama btw). Kerry is guilty of one thing, and he will admit this, underestimating how dishonest and even criminal Bushies are when it comes to smearing and cheating in elections. But McCain has denounced the smearvets, so that attack rat is a dead one. The GOP can't use it. Besides, not a single thing the smearvets said turned out to be true and the entire mainstream media knows it. Kerry's botched joke is also a total non-issue. Now, look at history. Early frontrunners often stumble and go nowhere (Gephardt, Liberman in 2004). In 1999 the Dems were in a revolt trying to reject Gore and bring in "new blood" Bill Bradley. dems also get excited about the fresh liberal face but never end up cominating them (Howard DEan anyone?) And whatever you think of Kerry he can definitely beat Hillary (not to mention McCain) in New Hampshire and Iowa. Besides, can you really see Obama, Edwards or Hillary as commander in chief during war-time? Come on, admit it. They are all very lite when it comes to military credibility. btw: don't count out Vilsack, Biden and CLark. They all deserve a look. But if Gore enters, it's all over.
