Of course it is fixable. But Chris, let's be realistic. Bush tried to push Social Security reform immediately after getting re-elected when his approval ratings were still decently high and he had a Republican majority in both houses. The chances at that time were higher than ever before to do something about it, yet he failed.

Now, I've recently talked highly of Democrats on these boards when it comes to oil independence and getting out of Iraq, but when it comes to fixing Social Security, Democrats are complete idiots. The plan Bush put forward was not only a good idea, I believe it didn't go far enough. As long as we have a defined benefit system, instead of a defined contribution system, it will always be at risk of failing and taking our economy with it.

We need to wise up and create a 401K style social security system where what you put in will be what you'll get out of it, plus earnings.
