re: Most of the juice oranges are grown in Florida. California produces the eating oranges.

I don't think that's true.

I read today that 90% of juice oranges come from Florida (and yes they are Valencias, just like the tree in my backyard).

I don't know what to say......I just checked the bag of oranges in my fridge and they are Valencias from CA. When I lived in CA, we would go to orange orchards and pick juice oranges by the bags.......I think they were Valencias or a cousin to them. I don't particularly like Navel oranges, the eating orange, so I am aware of the distinction.

re: Sorry but I really like oranges and orange trees. <g>

Did you ever read the book Oranges, by John McPhee? Everything and more that you ever wanted to know about oranges... great little book. I think I have an extra copy, if you want me to send it to you shoot me a PM with your address.

I've seen it at the local nursery. Not to worry......I will pick up a copy the next time I am there.
