The "Atlas Shrugged" solution.

More like the Howard Roark solution. :) And they wouldn't need to really blow it up (although that would be extremely emotionally gratifying), just putting sufficient "sand in the gears" ought to do the trick.

ExxonMobil has responded with a strongly worded statement about the "sanctity" of contracts.

Responding to Comrade Hugo is fine and dandy, but XOM should be loudly and publicly be saying the same thing to Comrade Pelosi and her demagogue cohorts...

Exxon signing a contract with one bunch of people who have presumed to take possession of national assets for their personal benefit is different from signing a contract with individuals or companies who own the property or will supply the services that they contract for.

It is absurd to sign a contract with Adolf Hitler who has slaves in concentration camps, or Negro slave cotton picker owners, or Saddam Hussein who took oil fields by force for his personal benefit, and expect those who have been enslaved or beaten to comply with the terms of a contract forced upon them against their will.

Venezuelans can quite reasonably assert eminent domain, sovereign rights and confiscate property on their property. That's the nature of the ridiculous system we all live under of citizens as serfdom chattels.

People and their property are everywhere currently just property of the state. We should be owners of a tradable property right in our national assets and sovereign owners of our own individual property. Until the shift from the age-old serfdom rules in which we all live, including those gullible fools in the "free" and "democratic" world, we can expect to have such ructions and squabbling over property.

Governments don't pay us profits from our shareholdings in our countries, they TAX us and spend the money on themselves and their supporters. We can't sell our stake and move to a better country, buying a tradable citizenship there.

Whining about Venezuelans confiscating the assets in their country is absurd. It's called taxes, by another name.

Wonder what goes through his head when he hears Maria Cantwell say - contracts? sanctity schmanctity.

"I don't want to get pejorative about it, but contract sanctity is very, very important to Exxon Mobil... We don't enter into our obligations lightly and we expect that others don't enter into their obligations lightly either," he said.
