I agree with most of what you say, but I think removing problem priests from positions where they can cause problems is not the whole answer. This is a criminal act, especially for a person in a job of immense trust, and the Catholic Church has to stop thinking "my guys, right or wrong" and start cooperating with civil authorities. I remember the parish priest in the Centerville district of Fremont, CA. who had a different schtick. He used to hit on recent widows when they were seeking counsel. The sad thing is that many of the widows would tell the story, but it was years before one was willing to testify under oath. They were old-fashioned and thought they would go to Hell if they bucked the church.

BTW, churches are not the only ones with the problem. Schools, Boy Scouts, etc. are all vulnerable to these types of predators. The difference is, the schools and the other organizations do not stone wall authorities.
