I agree. I also don't think we can get rid of, or even almost get rid of narcotic consumption by passing and trying to enforce laws. But there is a difference between "reduce consumption" and "get rid of". Technically if you net one less use of drugs, you've reduced consumption. And even if you meant "reduce consumption in a meaningful way" that's still far short of "getting rid of" drugs.

I'm not opposing your overall position. I'm pointing out that you made your case in too strong of terms, and thus moved from a really solid argument, to a rather questionable argument.
