Yes, I am familiar with that history. (Are you familiar with the language of the Treaty the United States entered into, which marked the end of the attacks?) >>> One small point I would like to address: the language used in that meeting by the Dey's ambassador (employing a sort of what we would now describe as 'jihadist' terminology) was 'political speak', i.e., 'politically correct' within his world but, coming from an 'Ambassador' as it was --- bearing little relationship to the true facts of the matter AT ALL. In truth, the attacks were on us because we were a new nation, and perceived as WEAK. It wasn't religion but greed & opportunism that lay behind the targeting. <GGG>
