And not one where something else offsets (or causes the consumer to ignore) the negative effect of price,

A thing can only be sold for what someone is willing to pay for it.

Public perceptions of value can change, which changes demand.

An example would be the first home permanent kit sold in the US.
They were marketed low in price to get the consumer to try it out.
Consumers thought that this low price showed lack of value so the product sold very poorly. It was then pulled from store shelves.

After a few months the product was reintroduced at nearly three times the price. It then sold very well. Consumers thought it must be a higher quality product than before.
