Obama cannot win a general election against McCain or Romney. But he can help the Democratic party a lot, and maybe someday be president. I also think Hillary cannot win against those so-called "moderate" GOP white guys. She could come close, but nominating her or Obama would give away the advantage democrats just earned. This is an election year where the democrats should be able to clean up so we don't need to compound our challenges by taking big risks like running the first black or first woman. That could easily backfire. I'd rather have Vilsack or Clark or Biden. Kerry is not really the point. He's just the most qualified of the white guys along with Gore who probably won't run.

So why take the risk? Just not worth it. Obama has great charisma. Big deal. The GOP will destroy him with their smear machine very quickly in the minds of the average middle American white swingvoters, and in close elections those are the only voters who end up counting. And Hillary, they've been planning to destroy her for years. Sure she's smart and tough, but she's also Hillary and she's a she. 49% of Americans disapprove of her. That's a huge number considering the smearing hasn't even begun yet.
