But the numbers show that viewpoint is a left-wing hoax. " Bill, maybe you should look a little deeper. You've cut and pasted countless articles lambasting the "liberal press" for reporting that things weren't going well in Iraq, that the President's strategy was flawed and that we were heading for a crisis. You dismissed such opinions and the facts upon which they were based as biased and foolish. You accepted every one of the neocon assumptions until the very end and you "trusted" the Administration. Surely you've learned something from that, right? Surely you've learned that just because an opinion runs counter to your politics or preferences you shouldn't simply dismiss it based upon ad hominem attacks on the messengers. Surely you've learned to distrust the "official" views of government appointees when its been revealed over and over again that those people were appointed for their willingness to "play ball" with the Bush/Cheney Administration rather than based upon their competence. Surely you recall the numbers of dollars they said the Iraq war was going to cost (less than a few billion), the number of dollars the medicare bill was going to cost (a lot less than the real estimates they had), the number of insurgents fighting us in Iraq at various times (in the hundreds of single digit thousands), the number of hospitals, schools, sewer systems, water systems, hours of electricty, etc. that we provided the Iraqis, the number of wmds Iraq had under Saddam Hussein......you get what I'm trying to say, don't you? In every case the much more pessimistic numbers opined by the "liberal press" and the "left wing anti-American defeatists" turned out to be depressingly accurate. In fact, if you'll go back and review some of the Iraq projections that you previously labeled ridiculously pessimistic, you'll find that many of them are far less pessimistic than the statements made by the Bush Administration in the last month. Face it, the people in the Administration who you so doggedly trusted to tell you the truth based upon superior knowledge and "integrity," are now forced to acknowledge that those they questioned as "hate America first" folks were....are you ready??....RIGHT. So if I were you I'd take a look at the history and the facts and get suddenly HUMBLE. And I'd stop that silly thing of pretending I could ignore all contrary opinions by attacking the authors as "liberals." After all, how effective are ad hominem attacks when, over time, reality proves that the "liberal" authors were correct? In fact, I'd stop calling them liberals. If they're liberals then history is suggesting that we should equate "liberal" with intelligence, judgement and wisdom. At the same time, what is history teaching us about how we should view those we refer to as "right wing," "conservative" or "neocon?" People like you, Bill. Think about it. Ed
