Sure. Marry the "tipping point" to "the butterfly effect"...

But instead of arguing that the tipping point concept has been misapplied in a particular scenario, in this case global warming, the reaction is against the term, which disparages the whole concept. Tipping point and butterfly effect are two valid and useful concepts. We're all familiar with the validity and utility of critical mass and tipping point when applied to neighborhoods that deteriorate. The typical reaction of the right-wing umbrage machine to the "latest left wing jargon," however, is to throw the baby out with the bathwater in an anti-intellectual fit. Like it did with "nuance." Dumb down and ridicule rather than analyze. Yep, real constructive...
