I'm using an ADSL with a download speed of 50KBit/sec which is fine if I'm not downloading at busy times. The ping time to the US is around 500 msec although to my server in SA is less than 100msec. The big delay comes from the trans-Atlantic path because it's fine again in the US. Besides the erratic speed, actually I don't want to tie my computer up watching videos, especially in real time. I do nevertheless download mp4s at off-peak periods and watch them in my own time. I only use Windows Media Player. I have removed all traces of Real Player from the computer -- it's worse than a virus.
