I've now had a chance to dig into my employer's health insurance rate structure, and it looks like one narrow group of people could be hit hard by the new tax: single current employees first hired more than 20 years ago. That's the problem with these kinds of sweeping changes... you tend to get capricious unintended consequences.

It now looks like I'm not affected by this tax because my insurance rate dropped quite a bit when I retired. I hadn't noticed this because my ex-employer pays 100% of my insurance cost. <g>
