The very fact we're talking about Muslim Obama means the smear jockeys just won. See how it works? Same thing they did getting us to angrily defend Kerry's war record and prove they were full of BS. The effect on a little-known candidate (Kerry was also little known in early 2004) is to put out just enough doubt that the candidate's true merits are overlooked. In fact Kerry still isn't well-known thanks to the avalanche of disinformation the rightwing put out. for one thing he really was an amazing war hero. So now Joe Average will be thinking "Obama Hussein who? instead of "does he have a good plan for Iraq?" That's how the Bushies work. And there is almost no way to defend against it. You just have to try and transcend it, which Kerry didn't do and probably couldn't have done because 25,000,000 people were hearing the trash all day on rightwing talk radio, then the cable networks were giving the smearvets equal air time. By then the damage was done. It's called defining your opponent before he can define himself. Even with 100% lies. It's to try and make up for the fact that the rightwing can almost never win on any issues. Hillary is next. "Weak on defense" and "lesbianish" will be the two targets.
