Well, cash under the mattress is probably the ultimate hedge. Zero return is preferable to a "good" loss... -g.

Hedge funds are basically large traders. Each one of us on SI who is active in the markets runs, in effect, a one person hedge fund. The idea is rather capitalistic, and it does not turn me off. But - on the average, those funds will not do better than an average trader. Good ones will do well - just as good traders do well over time.
