understanding a certain amount of pragmatism is essential

for example, i was really sad to see harold ford not make the senate in tennessee, as i think once he was representing the entire state, and not just his district there was a reasonable chance he could have been an effective 'new democrat', knowing his re-election was truly at stake

but, i'd rather take a chance on a guy like him than some 'good ole boy, rubber stamp, go along to get along' candidate like corker<g>
