a far cry from the practice in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Thailand, pakistan, Afghanistan, and soon lebanon.

Thailand? Thailand is something like 90% Bhuddist. As far as I know it gives equal rights to its citizens to practice whatever religion they want.
