What do you think of the Bush plan, 20% reduction in gas consumption in 10 years? If I remember right you thought that stuff was counter-productive.

Is it OK now that it's a Republican program?

You think Seattle voters (or Washington owners in general, if its state subsidies) will be able to quash this money grab?

If it requires state monies, then I suspect it will be quashed. The state usually runs a surplus every year but there are some big infrastructure projects coming up that will require major bucks. There is also the belief that these guys are playing and that they really want to move the Sonics to Oklahoma where they are from. The Sonics were owned by the owner of Starbucks but he sold them to these Oklahoma guys when he couldn't get the state to pay for the expansion he wanted at the existing arena. You have to understand the state has built two new stadiums for the Mariners and the Seahawks and everyone is sick of it. As one of the legislator's complained, she's tired of building sports palaces for multi millionaire ball players. Plus, the Sonics already have an existing stadium that seats 20,000.

Its hard to sell these boondoggle projects to western cities because they don't need them to generate growth. In fact, most people here think Seattle is growing too quickly.
