Z, I applaud Albany and the state of New York for trying. Surely they've seen other states such as Colorado and Virginia develop their own "Silicon Valley" and hope to do the same in the upstate area.

One problem, though, is that it's extremely risky. I wonder how many of the local politicians have talked to those in Pooghkeepsie. Also, AMD's poor earnings release today doesn't bode well for the future of that fab.

Anyway, I just thought about the scale of government subsidies to businesses. $1.2B is not chump change at all, not to businesses and definitely not to state treasuries as well. Like I said, it's high-tech, so I'm OK with it, but what about other industries?
