Ulysses I have read a number of times, including once while visiting Ireland, but although I made a number of attempts at Finnegan's Wake I never got too far.

I understand the theory behind it but you don't read a novel for theories. I'll put it in the category with books like Critique of Pure Reason -- I'd rather read about what someone smarter than me writes about them than struggle through them myself.

Maybe you can think of David Foster Wallace as Ulysses-era James Joyce crossed with Philip K. Dick...
