Senate bans lobbyist travel, except for Isra'El jta.org The U.S. Senate voted to ban lobbyist-funded travel for lawmakers. The legislation, which passed 96-2 on Thursday night, is similar to new rules the U.S. House of Representatives made for itself in the first week of a session in which Democrats took control of Congress. The Senate bill allows non-profit affiliates of lobbies to run tours for lawmakers, a provision that the pro-Israel lobby aggressively sought. That compromise preserves trips run by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which has a non-profit spin-off, as well as those run by local Jewish federations that do not employ lobbyists. However, it would affect tours organized by groups like the American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League and Republican Jewish Coalition.
