Are you saying that Medicaid in your state paid for stomach stapling?? That would surprise me. I know that medicare won't pay for it.

I didn't realize your original question had to do with the validity of a single payer system......so I would simply offer again my commentary on it being cheaper by perhaps 30% than some govt. program to subsidize private insurers to carry the uninsured.

I've read that Medicare is actually a very cost efficient and effective method of healthcare delivery, esp. considering that those enrolled, being older, are using a disproportionate amount of healthcare. So I would be interested in seeing some proposals modeled after Medicare.....or maybe just expand Medicare to cover the whole population.....or at the very least, use it to provide catastrophic coverage.
