At least before Jobs got booted out by Sculley, what Jobs would do is cruise through the labs until he saw something that excited him.

I don't understand why you don't see the brilliance in the ability to know instinctively what people will want. After all, how many patents sit in DC collecting dust?

That's not to demean the position of an engineer.......they execute the dreams of a Job and that's no small feat.
