"Those, like yourself, see this and if I read you right conclude that this is a justification for invasion.

The justification for invasion was not one thing or as conspiracy theorist like to say, "The real reason we invaded." The circumstance and consequential justification of the invasion was complex.

Personally I was concerned about a bigger issue than Saddam. Saddam was an evil and oppressive murdering brute. No one should have to defend themselves for standing up to him at whatever the personal cost. It is a noble cause all by itself. The bigger issue for me, however, was my role in the sanctions which had become in a very deliberate means of causing harm to Saddam by targeting the innocent population of Iraq. That was bad but Saddam made it worse by using the innocent Shi'ite population as pawns. He allowed them to fall into a suffering and dying condition, which not only made us look like the bad guys, it exposed us as the bad guys at the time. Especially when Albright stated that the suffering and death of half a million children under the age of five would be worth it.

Targeting innocents is a sin. That was intolerable for me, so I supported having our enemy Saddam as the target and stopping the other.

The problem is that it would never have been supported by the American people.

That may be true. I suspect it is.

"Thus the need for the big lie --

That is your opinion.

"...and to those perhaps like you a little lying is just what must be done from time to time to move forward.

People like me never lie.
