OT, England is arguably the poorest socialized system, and also the cheapest. Even so, their people still live longer than us and have a much lower infant mortality. What about Switzerland or Sweden?

I have no love for Medicare. Health care, like everything else, must have limits as to how much and what you can consume. And it's a good idea to have co-payments for people that can afford them, even in a socialized system. There are a lot of very expensive procedures and drugs whose marginal benefit compared to much cheaper ones is questionable. A rational socialized health system should not use public money for such procedures or drugs.

Could you comment on why you think such a system will EVER provide good cost effective care?

Are you refering to the system we have now or to a single payer system?
