Look, on the first anniversary of Sept 11 Saddam knew we were planning to attack him. That was kind of obvious. You know how puffer fish puff up so other fish won't eat them? Ahem...
well yeah- it's like that. I will say he didn't understand the West very well, and his ignorance meant that his rhetoric, as opposed to deterring the US (as it was meant to) actually spurred the West on, since apparently some people (unfortunately) believed him. But as Mr. Webb said in his speech, there were plenty of people, very well informed people, who did not think Saddam was enough of a threat to invade the country. It turns out they were right. So what you are arguing, is that there is enough justification for the mistake that has been made, wrt to Saddam and his capabilities. That's a hard argument to make. It's always difficult to defend a mistake.
