It's a turn of phrase too perfect to pass up. And I'd note that while no one said to stop forking around in the broadest sense, the conversation was about changing the way he does the forks in terms of the specific charts he uses. That'd mean him changing the method that's worked for him, so that would, in fact, be sticking a fork in that specific thing. No one was coercing or forcing or being obnoxious about it, mind you, but I was just saying that I, personally as a freep stating an opinion, wouldn't put a fork in it. Period. Don't look for deeper meaning in a shallow freepish posting.
