Carter screwed with maps.

There was a map whose boundry lines were probably taken from someone else. It wasn't the same map in the sense of a photocopy. Carter claimed he got the map from an Atlas. At worst, it was a copyright issue.

used the word apartheid much too loosely and if i am not mistaken compared israel/palestine to ruand.

I think that's one and the same issue. He used apartheid in the title of the book which conjured up South Africa apartheid. I personally don't find the word "apartheid" to be strictly used in referring to South Africa or the political environment of SA under apartheid. I was somewhat surprised to see that there are people who do ... vehemently.

No i dont believe him to be anti-semetic but he certainly has an anti-israel bias which is his right.

I haven't read the book, but from what I've read Carter focused on a very small segment of the Israeli population. Specifically, the group that is intent on establishing the biblical boundaries for Israel and their influence within the Israel political system.

Perhaps the largest issue is what Carter remembered about a meeting appears to be at odds with others.

It's interesting to go look up the book at Amazon.com and read the reviews. The people that have actually read the book are positive about it, but that's not the majority of the posts. The majority of the posts are there to gut Carter and anyone that reads the book.
