LOL... I would have guessed that. But, that doesn't fit with the stories he tells. I have a friend at church who is a retired submarine commander of some 26 years. We've had some interesting conversations. I know a sub can get away with nearly anything it chooses to do. My son used to tell me about the difficulty they had to make sure the carrier never was within target distance of anything. In spite of that, I saw just the other day a Chinese sub surfaced within "target distance" of the USS Enterprise in the waters near Japan. So much for that idea.
