The Turk's treatment of all the minority populations of Anatolia (all of whom were there thousands of years before the Turks) has been one of subjugation, ethnic cleansing and genocide. We have little knowledge in the country of the fact that the Turks destroyed the Byzantine Empire in 1453 and ran a Muslim "Ottoman" Empire out of Instanbul until 1922. As you point out, it wasn't all sweetness and light under them.
