I am a person who tends to give the benefit of the doubt to all people I come into contact with, whatever race or ethnicity they may be. We are all human before anything else. I know this in my heart. I believed in this very strongly until I followed very closely the news in the middle east post 9/11. Pre 9/11 I thought only the extremists were to blame; most of those practising islam would have nothing to do with murder, suicide bombings etc. or so I thought. Then came the hamas victory in the palestinian territories, and I have slowly given up hope that people who grow up in a muslim culture want freedom. They elected terrorists into power! Even the media was shocked.

And how many people marched against the Hudood Ordinance in Pakistan versus the numbers who have marched in favor of it? I believe the number who marched for it far outweighs the number against it. A note to those who may not know, the Hudood Ordinance require a woman who is raped to produce 4 male witnesses: en.wikipedia.org

How many marches do we see for peace in the middle east?

How many openly speak out against "honor" killings?

And how many believe it is perfectly acceptable to kill infidels in the name of islam?

And similar heinous crimes take place in Thailand, where nearly 2000 Thais have been killed by muslims in the south since 2004.

And we see this in the Phillipines, where muslims use suicide bombings as a regular occurrence.

Until most members of islam are willing to even acknowledge that these egregious problems exist, I find myself not trusting people of the muslim faith. I admit it. Does it make me a bigot? Certainly not, when every night there are more atrocities to add to the list. At this point, my trust must be earned......and this in no way is bigoted. It is merely common sense.
