As I recall, the price variation was less than $200, or 5% of the total cost.

My dad had it done in WA for $3K. At the same time (3-4 years ago??) it was $500 in LA. I'd call that an astonishing difference. More to the point, have you seen the production line system they use now? Multiple Docs with the patients on a big turntable, each one does only a step of the proceedure.

A friends uncle (a Canadian) was the first to do that approach (or so he claims) and although the prices were good, he still raked in the dough. Good for him.

If I decide my doc did a bad job taking out my gall bladder, I don't get a do-over. Plus how in the world would I know he did a 'bad job' short of being killed or maimeed

If you didn't change Docs and hospitals for that matter, for subsequent problems, you would be nuts. People find out all the time when their Docs screw up. That is why Docs have high liability insurance.
