"The US managed to dupe the world into believing that the USSR was a super power. We know now that it wasn't. Its military couldn't function and there is good reason to believe that the CIA and the government knew this. By keeping people frightened the US government kept the military industrial complex well heeled."

So the US should have attacked the soviets? If you were here then, you would be running to enlist, eh? And if you were in danemark, you would be out picketing for Uncle Joe, i bet. What a disingenous schmuck you are.

"Europe gave the world democracy."

Maybe if you include England as the standard bearer there. Democratic governments were pretty scarce in Europe in 1776. Other than England were there any?

Suppose you might count Iceland.

Re. #2 - You have a decent point there - we did have our appeasers and isolationists then - and we still do.

It's a school boy debating trick to claim that NATO alone was the reason why Western Europe was not over run by the USSR.

Why didn't the USSR stay out of eastern Europe if it was so harmless and weak?

That last paragraph is horseshit. The Soviet Union was plenty strong enough to take on anyone in western Europe absent the NATO alliance. Perhaps England and France, the nuclear powers in western Europe, might have been able to use their nuclear threat to hold them off. Thats it.
