No gas?? no gas?? come on it must have used at least the fumes. I also dove a VW for years, my first one a 1962 VW and gave me 45 mpg. I did all the maintanence my self, including engine jobs. Those were in the days when a penny was like a copper mine to me...........well maybe I am stretching it a little.
