Hi Peter -

Somebody once said that if politicians didn't exist, we'd have to invent them.

From the outside looking in, it's often difficult to tell whether a quasi-political process such as standards creation is flawed, or going through some transient aberration.

The body of standards produced by the IEEE is its own testimonial. But all such processes with global impacts are subject to scrutiny: especially by the media. Sometimes they get it wrong, sometimes they get it right.

Explaining to those whose knowledge is necessarily limited can be another frustration added to that of trying to get the job done, in the first place. Exasperating.

But that's the way it is. An internal clash of industry heavyweights, with public accusations, inevitably breeds controversy and curiosity.

Thanks for your response.

Jim
