What the hell does single payer have to do with everyone being covered? Everyone being covered is the issue, not single payer. Why can't you get such a simple fact straight?

In terms of the debate over providing healthcare to everyone, I believe these are the assumptions:

The single payer is the govt. so obviously everyone would be covered.

Can we agree to this?

Preexisting exclusions are almost 100% the result of the fact that the population is not required to carry mandatory coverage.

No, preexisting exclusions are 100% the result of for-profit companies refusing to take risk. Again, you keep thinking in theory. Consider thinking in reality.

Mandatory coverage says the INDIVIDUAL must have coverage, not that he must be able to get affordable health care from any company. Say that it's obvious an individual needs $100K/year in health care, exactly who is going to cover that need?

You're going to force a random insurance company to take on this individual at a rate he can afford even if that rate is $0/year?

Really?

Who is the unlucky insurance company?

The role of insurance, from the company's perspective, is to get $100 in premiums and dole out $0 in claims. Now you're going to force this company to take on $0 in premiums and dole out $100K/year/life?

Really?
