Two dead in Pakistan hotel bombing (more Islamists crimes on their own people)

Two people have been killed and five injured in a suspected suicide attack in Pakistan.

The bomber and a security guard were killed in the blast at the Marriott hotel in the capital Islamabad.

Police cordoned off the area surrounding the hotel in the centre of the city close to the parliament building and the offices of President Pervez Musharraf.

"It seems it was a suicide attack, but officers are still investigating," said Khan Sherpao, the country's interior minister.

Initial reports indicated that the guard had intercepted the attacker as he tried to enter the hotel's nightclub.

Of the injured, one other hotel guard was in a critical condition.

Police used wooden boards and white sheets to seal off the bomb site, and the hotel was apparently badly damaged by the blast.

Shoes and strips of clothes could be seen among the wrecked masonry.

Two cars parked nearby were also damaged.

The hotel was targeted in a bombing in October 2004 that wounded several people.
